Affiliate status provides BIS an opportunity to receive expertise professional development for staff members through conferences and copies of professional development articles and other professional materials. Furthermore, it allows BIS to keep up to date with educational trends and ensures that BIS is committed to best teaching practices in classrooms to maximize student achievement.
In the fall of 2018, BIS obtained Invitational Institutional Membership with AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Schools). This membership provides BIS with access to diverse leadership insights, training, mentoring, professional learning communities, curated materials and much more resources. Being a member confirms the commitment of BIS to seek full international accreditation.
In the spring of 2019, BIS obtained CIS (Council of International Schools) Membership. This is the first step of the journey towards becoming internationally accredited. As a member school, BIS has access to other CIS services such as the ability to apply to CIS International Accreditation, CIS Global Citizenship Certification, Educator Recruitment and Leadership Search as well as events and services that help link our school with higher educational institutions that are also members of CIS.
Work to complete the Preparatory Evaluation, began in October of 2019 and the report was submitted at the end of February 2020.
On April 20 – 23, 2020, BIS had visitors from CIS “visiting” virtually through a virtual pilot. The team of three CIS evaluators met with staff members, students, parents, senior leaders and the FAWSEC Board of Directors. The evaluators also visited virtual classrooms, saw a virtual tour of the campus and reviewed all documentation submitted. Shortly after the visit, in May 2020, BIS was granted “Candidacy for Accreditation” which takes BIS to the last step of the accreditation journey.
BIS is now at the last stage of accreditation which is the self-study stage. During this stage, BIS will be engaged in a process of understanding and reflection as BIS prepares for a more rigorous visit and more thorough report that reviews the school's policies, procedures and practices holistically.
As the work continues, BIS will update this section of the website in May of 2021.
